Faculty Promotion Announced Edward Giovannucci has been promoted from associate professor of nutrition and epidemiology to professor of nutrition and epidemiology, effective May 1. He has focused his research efforts on ways in which nutritional, hormonal, and genetic factors have been related to risk of cancer. Concentrating on prostate cancer, he has studied the role of antioxidants in an effort to help develop scientifically based preventive strategies. His research into colorectal cancer has centered on folic acid and modifiable risk factors that contribute to cases of that type of cancer. HSPH Volunteers Help Boston Shine A group of HSPH volunteers participated in the citywide "Boston Shines" event on May 22 to help clean local neighborhoods.

HSPH Repeats Win in Bike Week Competition For the fourth time in five years, HSPH has won the Bike Week Commuter Challenge for its size category. Held from May 17 to 24, the friendly competition sees which institutions in Boston and Cambridge can get the most employees and students to bike to work or school on at least one day. A celebration was held on May 26 at Flat Top Johnnys in Kendall Square.
