Promotions Taso Markatos has been promoted to assistant dean for information technology. Markatos has worked at the school for more than 18 years, starting as an applications programmer/analyst in the Department of Epidemiology in 1982. William Mahoney has been promoted to assistant director for information technology server and network systems. Mahoney has been at Harvard University for more than 30 years and worked at the Office for Information Technology (now UIS) as the manager of IBM mainframe computer systems. He joined HSPH in 1990. Sean Sardam has been promoted to assistant director for information technology services and development. Sardam joined HSPH in 1998 from the University of Kentucky, where he had been a network administrator and senior systems analyst. Judy Burg and Margie Mahoney have been promoted to the positions of assistant deans for finance. Burg has been responsible for central school financial operations and sponsored-research administration since 1980. Prior to that, she had been the department administrator in the Department of Microbiology (now part of the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases). Mahoney joined the school in 1991. She had worked previously at Boston University in the College of Liberal Arts/Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as director of finance, assistant registrar, and assistant director of financial assistance. Incentives for Route 3 Commuters MASCO has announced that CARAVAN for Commuters, Massachusetts commuter services organization, is offering a financial incentive program, "Build A Better Commute," for newly formed carpool and vanpool leasing groups who travel on Route 3 between the New Hampshire border and Route 128. CARAVAN for Commuters will pay for any empty seats on vanpools (a minimum of 8 people in a 15-passenger van) for up to six months while the vanpool group looks for new riders. CARAVAN for Commuters is also offering a six-month discount, up to $220, on each riders vanpool fare. Commuters who lease a car from CARAVAN for Commuters for carpools (2+ people in a car) are also eligible to receive a discount totaling $900 during the first six months of operation. Commuters can sign up for carpools and vanpools by contacting CARAVAN for Commuters at 888-4-COMMUTE. Registrants should state they are affiliated with CommuteWorks.
