HSPH Trainees Have Won American Heart Association Award Three of Past Four Years

Mentorship has made its mark in the HSPH Departments of Epidemiology and Nutrition. Three of the last four winners of the Jeremiah and Rose Stamler Research Award for New Investigators from the American Heart Association have been trained at one of these two departments at the School:

2003: Tobias Pischon for "Plasma Adiponectin Levels and Risk of Myocardial Infarction in Men"

2004: Tianying Wu for "Fluorescent Oxidation Products - A Novel Risk Factor for Coronary Heart Disease Among U.S. Men"

2006: Stephanie Chiuve for "Primary Prevention of Ischemic Stroke by Healthy Lifestyle Factors"

The award recognizes excellence in research by investigators in training. The three HSPH winners were trained by Eric Rimm, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition. Applicants submit an abstract and 10-page paper. Five finalists present their abstracts at an annual meeting. The winner receives a $1,000 award.
