HSPH Student Recognition Award

The HSPH Student Recognition Award honors a student who has demonstrated, through student activities and/or community service, a commitment to excellence, leadership, volunteerism and the highest ethical standards.

Any HSPH student in good academic standing who has not previously won the award is eligible. Candidates may be peer- or self-nominated.

Nominees must submit a brief personal summary of student/community service activities for the academic year 2001-02 and an essay, maximum 500 words, describing their public health vision and how their activities for the year have exemplified this vision.

Submit all nominations to Anne Occhipinti, Office for Students, Kresge 112, by April 12.

The award will be presented at an upcoming student event.

Students interested in serving on the committee to select the recipient of the Student Recognition Award should e-mail Anne Occhipinti at aocchipi@hsph.harvard.edu by Friday, April 12.

Albert Schweitzer Award


The Albert Schweitzer Award is given annually to a graduating student whose past work and current activities have been marked by a "reverence for life" and who has sought, as expressed by Schweitzer, to "make my life my argument." The selection committee emphasizes service activities undertaken by nominees during their studies at HSPH.

HSPH students graduating in the 2001-02 academic year are eligible. HSPH faculty, staff and students may offer nominations.

Nominations should be in the form of a letter, describing in detail the relevant work and qualities of the nominee, and should be submitted to Anne Occhipinti, Office for Students, Kresge 112, by Friday, April 12.

Finalists will be asked to submit additional information, such as a resume, by April 22. Members of the selection committee will interview finalists.

The award will be presented at the HSPH Commencement Ceremony.Public Health

Award for Outstanding Service to the Community

This award recognizes a member of the Greater Boston community who, through his or her dedication, persistence, leadership and personal behavior, has advanced the general health of underserved people. The award aims to acknowledge the efforts of an individual working at the grassroots level who has not been publicly recognized for his or her contributions.

Members of the Greater Boston community, other than students, faculty members and staff members at HSPH or Harvard University, are elibible.

HSPH faculty, staff and students may offer nominations.

Nominations for this award should take the form of a letter describing the relevant work and qualities of the nominee.

Submit nominations to Anne Occhipinti, Office for Students, Kresge 112, by Friday, June 28.

The award will be presented at a community service event in the fall.
