HSPH Operations is organizing a group. School members interested in volunteering are invited to the Kresge cafeteria at 8:30 a.m. the morning of the event. Supplies will be provided.

For more information, call Operations at 617-432-1152 or visit the City of Boston web page at http://www.cityofboston.gov/neighborhoods/bostonshines.asp.

Last year, HSPH members and their families swept sidewalks, removed trash, cleaned street gutters, and removed graffiti from buildings.

Annual BikeWeek Challenge Encourages Pedal Power

Can HSPH maintain a winning streak in the annual BikeWeek Commuter Challenge? This friendly competition, during National BikeWeek from May 17 to 24, is between businesses and schools in Boston and Cambridge to see who can get the most employees and students to bike-to-work/school on at least one day. HSPH has won in its size category three of the last four years.

MASCO’s member institutions will get bonus points for having bike friendly amenities, such as showers, lockers, bicycle information, and sheltered bike racks for their employees and students.

To register, download the form at www.hsph.harvard.edu/hr/Forms/BikeWeek_2004.doc or visit Commute Works’ website at http://www.masco.org/commuteworks. The deadline is May 21.

Awards will be presented to the businesses and schools with the greatest number of participants in their size categories at a Bike Bash on Wednesday, May 26 at Flat Top Johnny’s in Cambridge from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
