HSPH Hosts Research!America

Experiencing physical pain is common for many Americans yet its biological underpinnings and best treatments are not always well understood or communicated. HSPH cosponsored "A Discussion on Pain in America: Prevalence, Treatment and State of Research" with Research!America on November 5 in Snyder Auditorium. The speakers included Dean Barry Bloom; Mary Wooley, president, Research!America; Kathleen Foley, attending neurologist, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; Jeremy Nobel, adjunct lecturer in health policy and management, Department of Health Policy and Management, HSPH; Michael Lasalandra, medical and health reporter, Boston Herald; Beth Collins Sharp, health scientist administrator, Center for Outcomes and Evidence, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; Hon. Louis Sullivan, president emeritus, Morehouse School of Medicine; Daniel Carr, Saltonstall Professor of Pain Research, Departments of Anesthesia and Medicine, New England Medical Center; Judy Foreman, nationally syndicated health columnist; J. David Haddox, vice president, health policy, Purdue Pharma L.P.; and Melanie Thernstrom, journalist and author, Pain: The Disease.
