Anderson said that he was especially proud of being associated with the Department of Health and Social Behavior at HSPH. The talent in the department is unparalleled in the field, he said. During his stay at HSPH, Anderson wrote the book Emotional Longevity: What Really Determines How Long You Live, with P. Elizabeth Anderson. He also worked on The Encyclopedia of Health and Behavior that includes the work of HSPH researchers. Prior to coming to HSPH, Anderson was an associate director at the National Institutes of Health and founding director of its Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research. Anderson will start his APA position on January 1. Beals Endow Associate Professorship at HSPH To honor their father Alexander, Bruce A. Beal and Robert L. Beal, longstanding friends of HSPH, have endowed an associate professorship at the school. The endowment will initially support the work of the Harvard AIDS Institute by funding its research directorship. Richard Marlink, lecturer in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, has been appointed the Bruce A. Beal, Robert L. Beal, and Alexander S. Beal Research Director of the Harvard AIDS Institute. Bruce Beal and Robert Beal AB 63, MBA 65 are partners in The Beal Companies, a real estate development and consulting firm that has been managed by their family for five generations. Bruce Beal is a member of the Harvard AIDS Institutes International Advisory Committee and a former member of the HSPHs Visiting Committee. He serves on the Committee on University Resources, the Harvard Art Museums Collections Committee, the Committee to Visit the Harvard Art Museums, and is an advisor to Harvard University on real estate matters. Robert Beal serves on the Committee on University Resources, and is a member of the Deans Council of the Harvard Divinity School and the Advisory Council of the Taubman Center at the Kennedy School. He is also his Class Secretary and was chair of his classs 35th and 40th reunion gift committees. In addition to the professorship at HSPH, Robert and Bruce Beal have also endowed several funds at Harvards Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
