Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and State Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez honored HSPH and other groups for organizing past Mission Hill Walks for Health at a fair on August 12. HSPH inaugurated the annual walk with co-sponsors in 1997. The fundraising benefits local youth groups, and past recipients have included Mission PRIDE, Sociedad Latina, Inc., and Mission Hill After-School Program. Last year, the walk raised nearly $40,000 and drew about 400 participants. The fair, held at Sheehy Playground on Smith Street in Mission Hill, featured a thank-you presentation and an opportunity for walk organizers to meet children from youth groups that have benefited from the fundraising. Activities included facepainting, juggling, a dunk tank, and a baseball throw. MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The next Mission Hill Walk for Health will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2005.
