Section 2: Estimated Cost of Attendance

“Budget: a mathematical confirmation of your suspicions.”  -A.A. Latimer

The purpose of the Cost of Attendance (COA) budget is to provide you with an estimate of how much it will cost to spend 9 months (September to May for most degree programs) at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The COA is updated each year and figures provided should be used as a guide in planning finances for the academic year.

The COA not only assists students with understanding and budgeting for the costs of their education but is also used by the OFA to determine a student’s eligibility for need-based aid including maximum federal and institutional financial aid processed through our office. The COA is NOT necessarily synonymous with financial requirements for the international student visa process. Although in some cases the combination of financial aid resources may exceed a student’s COA, it should not be assumed. All students who find that their costs and/or financial aid resources exceed our standard budget should contact OFA.
