On- & Off-Campus Employment
Graduate students at Harvard, regardless of their financial aid status, may work either on-campus or off-campus. Jobs and research opportunities are wide-ranging.
The Student Employment Office (SEO) maintains a jobs database to assist both domestic and international students eligible to work in the U.S. in finding employment while they are enrolled at HSPH. SEO’s Jobs Database is accessible to all graduate students through their HUID and PIN.
Important Facts on Graduate On-Campus Student Employment:
1. Students may work at a given job for as long as they are a full-time student at Harvard.
2. Students may work more than one job at a time.
3. Students are not eligible for paid sick, vacation, or personal time.
4. Students are discouraged from working more than 20 hours per week while enrolled and 40 hours per week when classes are not in session.
5. Employers must pay students for hours worked on a weekly basis.
Students who find Off-Campus Employment either through the SEO jobs database or on their own will work directly with their employer regarding the hiring process and payroll procedures. There are no contracts between SEO and off-campus employers unless the employer is hiring Federal Work-Study students. So while the number of hours per week cannot officially be monitored when students work at off-campus jobs, students enrolled full-time are also discouraged from working more than 20 hours per week when classes are in session.
