Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Population and Health Economics

Qualified applicants are sought for two year post-doctoral fellowships in Population Economics. The successful post-doctoral fellows will continue his/her training through a two-year fellowship at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. The post-doctoral fellows will be members of the Department of Global Health and Population. They will work directly on projects with faculty members and will also be expected to develop their own research in population economics.  Examples of current projects are:

• The effect of fertility on economic development
• Social networks and fertility
• The effect of social security on savings and retirement behavior
• Expected longevity and life cycle behavior
• Health and labor productivity
• The demographic and economic consequences of HIV/AIDS
• Health and aging in India

Fellows usually undertake some field work in developing countries. Fellows may be permitted to undertake a small amount of teaching.

Eligibility: Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in economics (or expect to receive a Ph.D. by September 2009), and have a strong background in a relevant field (e.g. population economics, labor economics, public economics, health economics or development economics) together with expertise in applied econometrics. Experience of field work is desirable. Fellows will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement and promise, regardless of nationality. Qualified women and minority candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Salary: $46,000. In addition to the annual salary, Fellows will have access to a full range of university resources including benefits.
