Faculty Grants for Pilot Research Projects 2007

A request for pilot projects on the global demography of aging was circulated to Harvard Faculty at the end of year 2006. Thirteen applications were received. The executive committee selected five proposals for funding. The selected projects are:

"Pre-Tertiary Management of ACS in a Low and Lower-Middle Income Country," Gene Bukhman and Christopher P. Cannon,Department of Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School

"Estimating the Effect of Education on Dementia Mortality using State Compulsory Schooling Laws as Instrumental Variables," Medellena Glymour, Department of Society, Human Development and Health, Harvard School of Public Health

"A Prospective Study of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis," Miguel Hernan, Department of Epidemiology, Harvard School of Public Health

"A Community-based Study of the Health Status of Older Ugandans," Saidi Kapiga, Department of Population and International Health, Harvard School of Public Health

"Cognitive Functioning under Stress: An Examination of How Physiological Responses Affect Decision-making in Older Adults," Wendy Berry Mendes, Department of Psychology, Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences
