UNAIDS Secretariat Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights Meeting
(24-26 August)
The fifth meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland. The Program on International Health and Human Rights served as the Reference Group’s Secretariat with Sofia Gruskin serving as Chair, and Shahira Ahmed as the Group’s coordinator. The primary purposes of this meeting was to address the current challenges and opportunities faced by UNAIDS and its partners in implementing rights-based approaches at global, regional and country level with a particular focus on their added-value and their utility at country level. In this context, members reviewed and discussed draft documents prepared by the Reference Group Secretariat to highlight concrete ways by which to design, implement and evaluate rights-based approaches to HIV/AIDS. The Group also revisited its short term and long term goals, future directions, and modalities of work. Sofia Gruskin Invited to Become a Member of the Behavioral and Social Consequences of HIV/AIDS Study Section
National Institute of Health (NIH) extended membership to Professor Gruskin to the Behavioral and Social Consequences of HIV/AIDS Study Section. Serving a 5 year term, Professor Gruskin will contribute to the NIH’s research efforts by reviewing funding applications submitted to this study section and surveying the status of related research supported by NIH. Appointees are chosen based on their competence and achievement in their scientific disciplines, publications, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors.
