| Boston Steps Evaluation
The Steps to a Healthier US program is a five-year cooperative
program funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services that aims to reduce the burden of diabetes, overweight,
obesity, and asthma and address three related risk factors:
physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use in Americans.
In September 2003, Boston Steps was awarded $1.2 million to
create a community mobilization effort for residents in seven
Boston neighborhoods to address these health outcomes and their
risk factors. Boston Steps is led by the Boston Public Health
Commission in collaboration with the Boston Public Schools and
a Consortium of community- and faith-based organizations,
government agencies, businesses, health centers and hospitals,
academic institutions and other key stakeholders. The Prevention
Research Center (PRC) on Nutrition and Physical Activity at the
Harvard School of Public Health will be working together with
the Boston Public Health Commission to design and implement
an evaluation of the Boston Steps program.
