Community Transformation Grants (CTG), awarded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are designed to help states and communities tackle the root causes of chronic disease such as smoking, poor diet and lack of physical activity, with an additional focus on reducing health disparities among lower–income Americans, racial and ethnic minorities, and other under-served populations that often have higher rates of disease. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is working with communities across the state to make local environmental and policy change. One strategy for change is increasing the accessibility and affordability of healthful foods and beverages in corner stores. The HPRC Team will evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of this corner store strategy.
