Students from other Harvard facilities, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy may cross-register into courses at HSPH on a space-available basis, for credit only. HSPH does not allow cross-registrants to register as auditors. All courses offered at HSPH are graduate level.

Students interested in cross-registering should first check with their own Registrar's Office for information on procedures, credit limits, deadlines, etc.. Students cross-registering at HSPH are required to meet all HSPH registration and add/drop/change deadlines, which can be found in the Academic Calendar.

Students should obtain a Cross-Registration form or petition from the Registrar's Office at their school. They should then take the form to the class they wish to register for and obtain the instructor's signature. The instructor's signature on the Cross-Registration form indicates that the student has the instructor's permission to register for the course; it does not guarantee that there will be space for the student in the course. Students should then submit the signed, completed form to the HSPH Registrar's Office. Once the student has been officially added to the course, the HSPH Registrar's Office will forward the Cross-Registration form to the student's Registrar's Office.

Students may also obtain cross registration information via a web-based system developed by the Provost Office and the Harvard Registrars. The site, http://crossreg.harvard.edu, is a synopsis of cross registration information and resources available to graduate students who wish to register for courses at different Harvard faculties.

Cross-Registration into courses at HSPH is contingent upon space availability. HSPH degree candidates have first priority; students from other consortium schools may not be permitted to register for oversubscribed courses. If a course is likely to be oversubscribed, cross-registrants will not be registered for the course until the end of the drop/add period.

Students may choose to register for a course for pass/fail or ordinal credit, with the exception of courses which must be taken pass/fail or which must be taken ordinally. Students should also check with their own Registrar's Office for credit and enrollment requirements for cross-registered courses.

Students who wish to drop a course or change their grading option after the add/drop/change deadline must do so through their school's Registrar's Office. If the student's school approves the late change, they will notify the HSPH Registrar's Office. If students are allowed to drop or change a grading option for a course after the HSPH deadline, they will be subject to a fee of $80.00 in addition to any late fees that may be charged by their own school.
