Through a generous gift from the Taplin Family, the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) will again this academic year offer an equipment grants program offering awards to HSPH faculty. Please note that faculty must have their research operation based at HSPH in order to qualify for a Taplin Equipment Fund award. This year, we will make one award of up to $50,000 to support the purchase of equipment and related implementation expenses (e.g., cost of technical training, equipment maintenance, and technical consulting fees). We will consider proposals of any amount up to $50,000.
It is preferred that applications also receive matching dollars from their respective departments. We encourage interested faculty to contact their department chairs to discuss potential departmental support.
Interested faculty members should submit an application of no more than two pages, detailing:
- Rationale for the proposal and its expected benefit
- Departments that will likely benefit from the purchase
- Description of the equipment and any implementing expenditures
- Proposed provider of the equipment and its anticipated cost
- Estimated date of purchase
- Total amount being requested
Applications will be evaluated based on the ability of the award to: 1) leverage existing strengths of the School, 2) open promising new avenues of investigation, 3) advance our public health mission, and/or 4) support a breadth of faculty participation in the activities enabled by the equipment.
The 2014 application period will be announced in May/June 2014. Award recipients will be selected by the Taplin Equipment Fund Review Committee and notified shortly thereafter.
