Friday Forums in Cardiovascular Epidemiology

Approximately once each month, the Program will host a Forum in Cardiovascular Epidemiology.  These meetings are open and interactive platforms for discussions in cardiovascular epidemiology among PIs from various institutions.

Each Forum will include a 30-minute talk by a PI on their most current research, followed by 30 minutes of interactive discussion.  Forums will include a tasting of wines and dark chocolates (with a brief blinded tasting).

To maintain reasonable group size and confidentiality, the Friday Forums are open only to members of the Program and their guests.  Others interested in attending a Friday Forum please contact the Program.

The Friday Forums in Cardiovascular Epidemiology are held from 4:00-5:30 pm, in Kresge Room 110 at the Harvard School of Public Health, 677 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115.

If you would like to see information on topics from the 2007-2008 academic year, please visit the Past Friday Forum page.

100% Napa Valley
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Aged 13 months in French and American Oak
This Cabernet is the perfect everyday wine. It has lovely black currant, blackberry and black cherry notes. The fruitiness is complimented by rich earthiness, sweet oak and a hint of anise. The tannins provide an excellent backbone for this wine. Open one hour before you intend to serve it. It should drink well through 2013. Total production 27,000 cases.

The Annabella line is a collection of wines that are sourced from premium vineyards throughout the Sonoma and Napa Valleys. Named in honor of Michael's grandmother, they include a Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. These wines represent not only quality, but value as well. Because of their popularity and limited production, the Annabella wines are allocated on an annual basis

2006  St Innocent Winery Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard
A Pinot Noir Dry  Red Table wine from
Willamette Valley,Oregon,USA
Rating: 94
Drink Now - 2021
Cost: $42

The 2006 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard is a candidate for Shea of

the vintage as well as my choice in this portfolio. It is the richest, most concentrated, and complex as well as the best balanced, nicely concealing enough structure to evolve for 4-5 years, about as much as one can expect from this vintage. It should be at its best from 2012 to 2021.

Production Notes:  Shea Vineyard is located in the Yamhill foothills, 35 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon. The Pinot noir was planted in 1990 on a hillside of shallow Willakenzie soil in the SW corner of the vineyard. It has a southeast exposure at an elevation of 350' to 500'.  The grapes were fermented in a two small tanks after two days of cold maceration. The wine aged for 16 months in 35% new French oak barrels and was bottled without fining or filtration.

This Pinot noir complements sweet meat entrees - lamb chops, filet, grilled salmon. When served young, this wine is best decanted or allowed to breathe for several hours. It is drinkable at release and will benefit from aging up to 10 years.

Wines: Marquis Philips
2006  Marquis Philips Cabernet Sauvignon
A Cabernet Sauvignon Dry  Red Table wine from Southeast Australia,Australia
Review by Jay Miller
Wine Advocate # 178 (Aug 2008)
Rating: 90+
Drink 2008 - 2016
Cost: $16-$17

The red wines begin with the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon which was barrel-fermented and aged in French oak for 12 months. Purple-colored, it offers aromas of cedar, spice box, plum, black currant and blackberry. Full-bodied, with spicy black fruit flavors, there is enough structure to support 2-3 years of additional bottle aging. Drink this well-balanced, lengthy Cabernet through 2016. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Winemakers for R Wines are Chris Ringland, Lisa Wetherell, Andrew Hercock, and John Hughes. It encompasses four familiar labels, Marquis Philips, 3 Rings, Roogle, and Bitch, along with 13 others created especially for R Wines.

Made from younger vines, the full-bodied, ripe, well-endowed, heady 2003 Shiraz exhibits earthy blackberry/chocolate notes, a touch of sweet earth, and a full-throttle finish. It is substantial in the mouth. Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (888) 472-5283
