Academic Degree Programs | Program Director | Admissions Requirements
Students enrolled in the Hazardous Substances Academic Training Program (HSAT) take the same required courses as students in the Industrial Hygiene Program and receive a degree in Industrial Hygiene. (Please refer to the previous section on Industrial Hygiene.) In addition, HSAT students also receive supplemental training on topics particularly relevant to protecting workers and communities from hazardous substances and hazardous wastes. For this additional training, they are awarded a 40-hour Hazwoper Training Certificate, a statutory requirement for entering Superfund sites, for emergency operations, and certain other activities in which exposures to a myriad of hazardous substances are possible. The HSAT Program offers scholarships and stipends funded by a training grant through a collaborative effort of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
