This course will provide participants with an interdisciplinary perspective on malaria disease eradication. Participants may participate in a 6-day Basic Module as well as one of two 3-day Advanced Modules.

BASIC MODULE: Participants will gain knowledge and skills to develop and direct malaria control, elimination and eradication programs through an understanding of:

  • past disease eradication efforts; malaria biology and epidemiology;
  • vector and parasite biology;
  • application of vector control, drug and vaccination strategies;
  • economic and financial tools and strategies;
  • impact of social and political factors; and
  • surveillance techniques and modeling to evaluate the effectiveness of eradication strategies.

ADVANCED MODULE: Participants may choose ONE of the following modules:

  • Supply Chain Management - Participants will gain knowledge of the critical role of supply chains in elimination and eradication, including supply/demand side drivers and incentives for intervention adoption and how to address key bottlenecks.
  • Dynamics of Malaria Transmission – Participants will examine existing tools to reduce and prevent transmission, diagnostics to prevent/interrupt transmission, changes in transmission patterns, current tools for low and moderate transmission, and explore transmission blocking vaccine interventions.

The modules are tailored for global public health professionals with advanced degrees, including: health, business and private sector professionals; scientists/researchers; malaria control program administrators, or field-based personnel; and those with an interest in the topic. We also welcome applications from candidates in post-graduate level global public health programs, including medical doctors.
