COEC Project #4

Project #4: Public Health Outreach: Researchers, Academia, and Organizations: The New England Endocrine Disruptor [NEED] Workshop

Project Leader and Collaborator: Russ Hauser, MD, MPH, ScD

Overview: The Boston area is rich with academic institutions, many of which have faculty who are engaged in research on persistent organic pollutants. When Dr. Hauser convened a meeting of these researchers in December 2007, the overwhelming turn-out spoke to a real need for formal networking structures that will support the sharing of methodologies and findings and possibly lead to inter-institutional collaboration. Harvard, Boston University, Tufts, Massachusetts General Hospital, The Silent Spring Institute and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute were represented at the first meeting. This outreach project will provide organizational assistance to the group and facilitate connection with Projects 1 and 2 (described above).

Project Aims:

1. Collaborate with Dr. Hauser to provide organizational assistance for the NEED Workshop, a researcher-organized group.

2. Assist with the development of an on-line database, wiki page, and RSS feeds.

3. Post workshop abstracts or summaries as mini-learning modules.

4. Identify outreach opportunities and facilitate connection to COEC Projects 1 and 2.
