Dr. Sun's primary research interests are to identify and examine dietary and biomedical risk factors for multiple health outcomes including type 2 diabetes, obesity, and healthy aging. His research is primarily based on a few large-scale cohort studies including the Nurses' Health Study I and II and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study.
Dr. Sun is also interested in the role of genetic risk factors in the relationship between biomedical risk factors and chronic disease. For example, he has conducted a few genome-wide association studies searching for genetic determinants for novel biomarkers and, subsequently, examined whether identified genetic risk factors may interact with lifestyle or dietary risk factors in disease etiology.
