Office of Research Strategy and Development

About Us

Welcome to the Office of Research Strategy and Development (ORSD) website.

The objective of the ORSD is to provide catalytic and strategic support for the school’s research efforts, and to provide resources to maintain the highest research standards.

Our primary goals are to:

1. Facilitate faculty research by identifying research and funding opportunities with a focus on junior faculty. We provide workshops on NIH structure, peer review and assist faculty in developing long term funding strategies. We offer customized funding searches directly through our office and also facilitate Dean's Research Update Lunches. Additionally, we seek to improve communications about funding opportunities through targeted announcements and this website.

2. Provide resources and support for faculty research programs. Some of the resources that have been provided through HSPH are the Career Incubator Fund and the Taplin Equipment Fund. We also provide support for junior faculty who have large-scale grants and assist in identifying those opportunities.

3. Reduce barriers to successful competition for extramural support. We provide some services to assist faculty in competing successfully for competitions. These include NIH Grant-Writing short courses, external proposal reviews, editorial services. We also track changes in the NIH review process, policies, and funding trends. We also support the Research Transformation Project, which is working towards improving HSPH's effectiveness in the key area of sponsored research administration,
