A key priority of Dean Frenk’s is to restructure administration and re-engineer work processes as needed to provide better service to the HSPH community. Identifying a need to improve HSPH's effectiveness in the key area of sponsored research administration, Dean Frenk launched the Research Transformation Project (RTP) in August 2009 to design a new model for research administration at HSPH. The goal of RTP is to design an administrative platform to achieve world-class service, maintain impeccable standards for compliance, and effectively manage complex problems.
Towards this goal, in 2010 the School piloted a number of organizational models to transform HSPH’s research administration infrastructure. Informed by the lessons of the RTP Pilot and guided by the administrative leadership of the School, HSPH launched the implementation phase of RTP in February 2011. Between February and June 2011, we have identified several goals that we will pursue during this phase of the project, including:
- Build stronger organizational connections between departments and the School’s research administration organization
- Create job descriptions and a new career development map for all research administration roles at the School and craft training and development programs
- Refine the structure of the SPA office to meet emerging business needs
- Refine, standardize, and document business processes across the school
People from across the School are participating in the implementation work streams. During the RTP implementation phase we will focus on the following areas of activity: Business Process, Communication, Learning and Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Technology and Change Support. For background information on RTP or more detailed information about the current RTP implementation efforts, please see the RTP i-site.
