Dr. Viswanath was appointed as a member of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC), US Department of Health and Human Services. NVAC recommends ways to achieve optimal prevention of human infectious diseases through vaccine development, and provides direction to prevent adverse reactions to vaccines. Dr. Viswanath will serve as a member of this committee for 4 years.
Dr. Vish Viswanath recently received an award from the Harvard Catalyst to launch the study, PLANET Catalyst, which aims to support community-based organizations (CBOs) in the cities of Brockton and Lowell in the delivery of effective evidence-based health programs. PLANET Catalyst is a study that is being conducted by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Harvard Catalyst, in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. PLANET Catalyst is based on the PLANET MassCONECT study, which is a community-based participatory research project funded by the National Cancer Institute that partners the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Harvard School of Public Health, and three community coalitions in Boston, Lawrence, and Worcester, to help community-based organizations plan and implement evidence-based health programs. PLANET examines the effects of investments in human, social and fiscal capital on uptake on evidence-based interventions in community health programming.
