Mission Statement

The Harvard Center for Society and Health is dedicated to the task of identifying the social and economic determinants of health and intervening to improve the public’s health.

Overview

The Harvard Center for Society and Health has four strategic goals, which are:

  1. To research the ways in which social and economic inequalities, public- and private-sector policies, and major demographic shifts affect the health and well-being of the public;

  2. To train domestic and international leaders and scholars on the social determinants of health;

  3. To communicate new findings on the social determinants of health to the general public as well as leaders in government, business, labor, community-based organizations, and health care institutions; and

  4. To help formulate public- and private-sector policies that will lead to improvement in the health and quality of life of the public.

Based at the Harvard School of Public Health, the Center complements the School's programs in social and behavioral sciences, epidemiology and public policy.
