Commencement Corner

Name Pronunciation

MESSAGE FROM STAN HUDSON, ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR STUDENT SERVICES

Dear Graduating Student,

I have the happy task of reading the names of the graduating master's students at the commencement ceremony.  If you are planning on attending the ceremony, I would greatly appreciate your help to be sure I pronounce your name correctly. There are two ways you can communicate with me to let me know.

1. Preferably, please call me at 617-432-4703 and leave a voice mail message.
Spell your last name and then clearly say your entire name as it is normally pronounced.
Please include all names, including middle names, that you anticipate being listed in the program.

2. Alternatively, if your name is not usually mispronounced by native English speakers, you may email me at shudson@hsph.harvard.edu and give me the following confirming information:
      Name: i.e. Stanley Hudson
      Pronunciation guide.
          "Stanley - rhymes with manly"
"Hudson - like the river in New York"
"The accent is on the first syllable of both my first and last name"
Again, please include all names including middle names that you anticipate being listed on the program.

Thanks for your help and congratulations!

- Stan Hudson
