The Gareth Green Award for Excellence in Public Health Practice is given to a student or student team for a practice project conducted while enrolled at HSPH. The project must contribute to the improvement of the health of a defined population and make a significant contribution to the work of the organization, agency or community in which it is conducted. The award is presented at graduation.
The award is sponsored by the Division of Public Health Practice and the Office for Educational Programs, and is given in memory of Gareth M. Green, M.D. Dr. Green served as HSPH’s Associate Dean for Professional Education from 1990-1998 and as the first chair of the Advisory Council of the Division of Public Health Practice.
Eligibility:
Graduating students from any departments and program, who have engaged in a significant practice project during their time at HSPH, are encouraged to apply for this award. Generally, projects that have been completed as part of a required practicum course (e.g. HPM 290, ID261, ID 263, ID 264, ID 265, SHH 294, etc.) are the most appropriate for consideration. Also considered are practice projects completed in the summer as a degree requirement as well as practice projects completed in other courses or outside of the classroom (in conjunction with a course).
Process:
Nominations may be made by faculty or students, and students may nominate themselves. The award includes a plaque presented at graduation as well as a $500 prize.
