Research
To advance the field of health literacy researchers at the VishLab are interested in going beyond the examination of reading skills and systematically assessing and testing interventions that address the other necessary skills such as obtaining and using information as embedded in the health literacy definition. For example, the Click to Connect project is examining underserved people’s capacity to obtain and process health information by developing their capacity to seek and use health information by providing them access to and training in the use of the Internet. The research question guiding this project is: Does improving access and ability to use the Internet among the socially disadvantaged lead to changes in several factors that comprise health literacy, including media use and exposure to health information, Internet use, health information seeking, and efficacy in information seeking, and secondarily in health knowledge and health beliefs?
