Yogeeta Manglani worked with Riders for Health in The Gambia. She collaborated with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to review patient referral records at health centers and receiving hospitals in The Gambia and to collect detailed data on patient referrals (such as reason for referral) for the years immediately before and after Riders’ implementation began in 2009. Yogeeta also collected cost-per-kilometer information from Riders’ financial team and used routing and GPS-generated data for the ambulances to examine cost per referral. Finally, she conducted a literature review on the role of transport in emergency referrals in sub-Saharan Africa.
