Emerging demographic, economic and dietary factors suggest that a large burden of preventable illness is poised to develop in India. In order to design feasible and valid public health interventions to produce these outcomes, a new generation of Indian nutrition scientists needs to be trained. We propose to establish a sustainable collaboration, the Bangalore Boston Nutrition Collaborative (BBNC), between scientists at St. John’s Research Institute in Bangalore and colleagues at Harvard School of Public Health and Tufts University in Boston for nutrition research and training. We will develop web-based courses; coordinate with faculty members to teach short courses in Bangalore; and identify promising Indian students for graduate work in Boston.
