In collaboration with the University of Cheika Anta Diop in Senegal, this project will analyze in detail the extent of variation in levels of expression and sequence of an uncharacterized family of molecules that are assumed to play a role in both the virulence of and immunity to the human malaria parasite. This study will develop previous work in Senegal to explore this important family of molecules that has not been previously studied at all. The data obtained from this research will have important implications for the inclusion of these molecules in the development of vaccines against malaria.
