Vitamin D and Infectious Disease: New Evidence and Future Directions

March 1st, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

This seminar will focus on the potential role of vitamin D in HIV and TB. There is a clear association of vitamin D status with poor outcomes in HIV and TB in observational studies; however, randomized trials of vitamin D supplementation have shown mixed effects. The speakers will discuss the evidence base and present new findings from a recently published randomized trial of vitamin D supplementation on mortality and TB incidence among adults living with HIV. The speakers will also discuss new, on going, and future research projects on vitamin D for pregnant women living with HIV and as adjunct treatment for MDR TB and COVID 19.
