Mahlet Tadesse to Receive Myrto Award

The Department is very proud to announce that Mahlet Tadesse (ScD ’02, MS ’00) will be this year’s recipient of the annual Myrto Lefkopoulou Award. Dr. Mahlet will be presented with the award and will deliver a lecture on:

Thursday, September 22, 2016
FXB Building, Room G13
Award & Lecture: 4pm
Reception to follow

Dr. Tadesse earned her masters and doctoral degrees from the Department in 2000, and 2002, respectively. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgetown University and previously served on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania as Assistant Professor of Biostatistics. She is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a fellow of the American Statistical Association.

This annual award was established in memory of faculty member Myrto Lefkopoulou, who died tragically of cancer at the age of 34, and is now given each year to a promising statistician who has earned a doctorate in the last 15 years.  Awardees have either displayed excellence in the teaching of biostatistics or have made contributions to collaborative or methodologic research in the applications of statistical methods to biology or medicine.

We look forward to honoring Dr. Tadesse in September and welcoming her back to the Department.
