A Conversation with Louise Ryan

Adjunct Professor of Biostatistics and former Department Chair Louise Ryan recently participated in a podcast conversation to discuss her career and advice for PhD students and early career researchers.

Currently the Chief Investigator at the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS), Louise begins the conversation by detailing her move from Australia to the United States and what it like to work and study at Harvard. She entails her time as a PhD student, her philosophy on developing a career plan and a research agenda on her path to receiving tenure, and eventually leaving Harvard after 30 years to return home. She discusses the differences in each country’s research environments, her challenges along the way, her plans for the future, and her advice to young researchers.
