The 2024 CELEHS/HMS Data Science Summer Program concluded last week with presentations from six teams who built and demoed toy cars that had been successfully programmed to recognize and react to objects including bottles, boxes and backpacks. In their presentations, the participants noted the excitement of overcoming engineering and programming complexities and putting their new skills into action. After 8 days of great presentations from professionals in the field, and a program full of learning-by-doing, we look forward to seeing where the inspiration takes our new cohort of data scientists!
Special thanks to our lecturers; Jesse Gronsbell, Biostats alum and Assistant Professor of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto, Marinka Zitnik, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the Harvard Medical School, and Tianxi Cai, program PI, and Professor of Biostatistics.
Students could not have achieved all they did without the tireless support of Program Deputy Director and Research Associate in Biomedical Informatics, Vidul Ayakulangara Panickan, HMS Berkowitz postdoctoral fellow Michele Li, visiting PhD student Hongyi Yuan, and Harvard junior Emily Gao. The program also had the dedication and experience of HMS and HSPH staff Mohammad Moro and Amanda King. The program team is already looking forward to next year!
