Barbara Burleigh

Barbara Burleigh is a Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.  She obtained a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.  Her dissertation research on membrane trafficking and nutrient acquisition in African trypanosomes was conducted at the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases in Nairobi, Kenya.  Dr. Burleigh then pursued post-doctoral research at Yale University School of Medicine focused on the molecular mechanisms governing mammalian host cell invasion by the Chagas disease parasite, Trypanosoma cruzi, and the role of parasite-elicited calcium signaling in this process.
