Evaluation of the Greater Boston Countering Violent Extremism Pilot Program

In 2014, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health was awarded a project sponsored by U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science & Technology Directorate, aimed at learning from the Greater Boston Countering Violent Extremism pilot program. The Harvard Chan School performed an independent and external assessment of the program by gathering feedback from the many stakeholders directly and indirectly engaged in the initiative, as well as from community leaders interested in expressing their opinion. During the implementation of the CVE program the Harvard Chan team has used developmental evaluation to assess the impact of school initiatives directed to high school students aimed at improving acceptance and tolerance of others as well as initiatives directed to members of the Somali community fostering economic development and integration.
