Kirthana Sharma

Kirthana Sharma is a physician and public health researcher. In her role as scientific advisor for the Rutgers Global Health Institute, she drives research initiatives to advance healthcare equity in global settings. Her current work explores improving access to timely cancer services including innovations in point-of-care diagnostics for cancer in women, studying the molecular epidemiology of cancer in low-and middle-income countries, and advancing access to cancer therapeutics with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. She is actively involved with the Botswana-Rutgers Partnership for Health, Chairs the Cancer Pathology Working Group and Co-Chairs the Technical Advisory Committee for Botswana’s quaternary hospital.  As a member of the Corporate Board of the Alumnae Network for Harvard Women, she has a keen interest in strengthening diversity in leadership. Dr. Sharma received her medical degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, and holds a Master of Public Health from the Harvard Chan School.
