Statement from Dean Williams on Sexual Harassment and Assault

Dear Harvard Chan School community,

Last week’s hearing in the U.S. Congress once again raised the deeply troubling issue of sexual harassment. Many of you may be feeling sad, frustrated, or angry because of the hearing and the other events surrounding the confirmation process for the U.S. Supreme Court.

I want you to know that the Harvard Chan School is dedicated to providing an inclusive, safe environment in which all members of our community can work and learn without fear or threat of sexual harassment or assault. The School does not tolerate sexual harassment of any kind and we will respond to any report of harassment with the utmost seriousness.

I sent the message below to the entire Harvard Chan School community last December. I encourage you to read it for the first time if you were not here then or to read it again as it contains important and helpful information. It is important to reiterate that if you ever have a question or concern about sexual harassment issues, please talk with one of our Title IX coordinators. Doing so is an important step toward creating protections and resolving concerns, and the rights of all parties will be respected.

Sincerely,

Michelle A. Williams, ScD
