HARKNESS FELLOWSHIP IN HEALTH CARE POLICY AND PRACTICE
Dr. Kringos’ Harkness Fellowship aims to identify effective models of high quality primary care for patients with multiple chronic conditions or socioeconomic barriers to care. She will focus on best practices among US and international primary care practices and experiences of an Academic Innovations Collaborative in Massachusetts, where 20 Harvard-affiliated primary care practices from 2012 to 2014 are undergoing a transformation toward becoming a Primary Care Learning Laboratory for Patient Safety. Using mixed methods, she will perform an in depth-study of evidence-based interventions at policy, practice, provider -and patient level, and explore the drivers of transforming primary care practices toward becoming high performing practices for patients in complex circumstances, reducing the risk to harm.
RESEARCH FOCUS & EXPERIENCE
Dr. Kringos’ research focus is on Health Systems Performance Assessment, Primary Care, Quality of Care, and Health Policy Analysis. She is dedicated to supporting evidence-based decision-making that contributes to health system sustainability and improvement.
Her research experience ranges from providing scientific support to the Health department (DG SANCO) of the European Commission to working closely with the Health Systems Department of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, RAND Europe, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Bank and national governments. She also performs national health system studies.

From 2005-2012 she worked at the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL), and from 2012 onwards she worked at the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) of the University of Amsterdam. In 2013/14 she was a member of the European Commission Working Group on Definition of a frame of reference in relation to primary care with a special emphasis on financing systems and referral systems” as part of the “Expert Panel on effective ways of investing in health”. From 2014 she is working as a Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston (USA).
