Roots of Resilience: AAPI Migration, Struggle, and Resistance

This workshop will provide an introduction to the diverse experiences of South East Asian, Asian and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Highlighting migration history and the lived experiences of Southeast Asian, Asian and Pacific Islander people’s racial struggles. Nancy Xiong, Lead Organizer of ARISE (Alliance for Rhode Island Southeast Asians) will discuss the topics of disaggregated data and fight for educational equity for Southeast Asians and communities of color in R.I. Steven Dy, Co-Executive Director of PRYSM (Providence Youth Student Movement) will uplift the organization’s work on the school to prison pipeline and intersectional organizing in the Southeast Asian and LGBTQ communities. Alexa Barriga, Organizing Coordinator of SISTA Fire will discuss their work on Black Maternal Health, highlighting grassroots organizing and the direct impact on health disparities. This workshop will be facilitated by Chanravy Proeung, Registered Nurse and a graduate candidate for Yale University’s MPH program.
