David Matheson

David Matheson is a Senior Partner of The Boston Consulting Group and led the firm’s health care practice for six years. He has managed BCG’s Boston office and has been a member of BCG’s Executive Committee among other management responsibilities.

Since joining BCG in 1980, Mr. Matheson has had extensive experience in consulting to health care clients. He has experience in virtually all sectors of health care, with special depth in payers, academic medicine, pharmaceuticals and diagnostics. He has been deeply involved in developing BCG’s practice in global public health.

He coined the term “disease management” and has led BCG’s efforts to help BCG’s clients come to terms with its implications.

In recent years Mr. Matheson has been engaged on several assignments related to the reform and evolution of health care IT. He led a team that created the leading RHIO in the U.S., and has developed strategies for several other RHIOs. He has advised health care information vendors, software companies, pharmaceutical firms and payers and providers on the likely evolution of health care IT infrastructure.

Mr. Matheson received an MA with first class honors from the University of St. Andrews, a JD from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review, and an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
