Joshua T. Cohen, PhD

Dr. Cohen is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine at the Tufts Medical Center Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies, and Deputy Director of the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health. His research has focused on the application of simulation to assess the risks, benefits, and costs of health interventions. His work has evaluated a range of medical and public health interventions.  He is currently working on the assessment of “value frameworks” – i.e., systematic approaches – developed by various organizations to characterize the “value” and “affordability” of pharmaceuticals.  He is also working on a project for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that includes an effort to facilitate the open publication of computer models used in cost-effectiveness analyses for developing countries. Dr. Cohen has served on several National Academy of Science committees, including panels that reviewed risk assessment analyses conducted by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and a committee that reviewed claims regarding childhood vaccine risks. He received both his Ph.D. in Decision Sciences and his B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University.
