Nael Hafez, MBA
Pediatric Physicians’ Organization at Children’s (PPOC)
Nael Hafez joined the PPOC in 2011 as the Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for all aspects of health information technology for the primary care pediatric network including: implementation and optimization of electronic health records, integration of data from disparate sources, development and management of clinical and administrative data warehouses, and providing support to various quality and performance improvement initiatives. Prior to joining the PPOC, Mr. Hafez spent more than six years with the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC) where he served as the Director of Technical Services, a Project Director, and the Security Officer. While at MAeHC Mr. Hafez led large scale, multi-stakeholder, inter-organizational projects involving Health Information Exchanges, Clinical Data Repositories and Quality measurement systems, and he was a consultant on several state wide health information exchange projects including those in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Missouri, and North Carolina. Prior to his leadership role as Director, Mr. Hafez served the MAeHC for several years as a Technical Project Manager responsible for the design, architecture, development and implementation of EHR, HIE and Quality Data Center projects for three Pilot communities in the Commonwealth (Newburyport, North Adams and Brockton). Mr. Hafez also spent eight years working in various roles for the Boston University School of Management Information Technology Services department, and was responsible for providing comprehensive Information Technology Service and Support to faculty, staff and students. Mr. Hafez is also a veteran, a former Captain in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and a recipient of the Purple Heart, two Army Commendation Medals for Service, as well as numerous other service medals and ribbons. He holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from the Boston University Graduate School of Management, as well as a BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Boston University College of Arts and Sciences.
