Scott T. MacLean, MBA, FHIMSS

Scott MacLean is Deputy CIO and Director of IS Operations for Partners HealthCare in Boston, Massachusetts. He is responsible for the core technical infrastructure teams and administration of the Partners Information Systems Department. This includes the voice and data network, data centers, desktop support and Help Desk for many of the Partners Hospitals and affiliated ambulatory practices. He oversees the budget, space and HR needs of a 1500 person department.
Previously, Mr. MacLean was Chief Information Officer of Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) and a Corporate Director at Partners. He was responsible for all information systems and telecommunications for NWH and its affiliates. During his tenure at NWH, Scott0020led the team through the adoption of the electronic medication administration process, medication reconciliation and discharge planning and the technology needed for a patient throughput process. In addition, he oversaw the implementation of the enterprise PeopleSoft and Soarian systems as well as several construction projects.
Prior to NWH, Scott was Director of Clinical Systems at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he was instrumental in developing and implementing the oncology functionality in the Partners Longitudinal Medical Record. He also supported integration with the Children’s Hospital Cerner system for the Pediatric program and the Partners Oncology Service Line IT initiative. Scott’s career started with General Electric where he was a systems engineer working with factory automation products.
Scott is on the Board of Directors for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and is a charter Board Member of Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE-USA). He serves on the Expert Panel for Patient Safety Reporting systems for the National Quality Forum. He has published several articles on the use of healthcare IT and is regularly interviewed in the healthcare IT press. In 2010 he was named one of the Top 10 Rising Stars by Healthcare IT News.
Scott is a Fellow of HIMSS, a Certified Profession in Health Information Management Systems (CPHIMS) and a Fellow of the Advisory Board Company. He has an MBA in Healthcare Management from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. Scott lives in Winchester, Massachusetts with his wife, two daughters and son.
