A global perspective on sustainable growth: A Q&A with Mamphela Ramphele

June 9th, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Mamphela Ramphele is on a mission. The celebrated activist, physician, businesswoman, and political thinker argues that the “well-being of a few is well-being of none.” She envisions a radically different world — one that is equitable, sustainable, and peaceful. And she is determined to help guide us toward that better future. As co-president of The Club of Rome, Ramphele brings together leaders from around the globe to think through the urgent challenges of our day, including the need to reframe economic growth to nurture ideals of equity and health.

In this Q&A, she’ll discuss her vision and the steps we must take to make it a reality. She’ll also reflect on lessons learned from her remarkable career, including her decades of activism in South Africa and her leadership roles in global nonprofits. The conversation will be moderated by Emmanuel Akyeampong, the Oppenheimer faculty director of the Harvard University Center for African Studies.
