Anatomy Day 2022

The Center for the History of Medicine in the Countway Library, including its Warren Anatomical Museum, holds an extraordinary collection of rare books and artifacts testifying to the complex history of anatomy. On Thursday, November 17, we invite you to explore transformative anatomical atlases such as those by Vesalius (1543) and William Hunter (1774), learn about historical aids for anatomical education from many parts of the world, observe artifacts from Harvard’s 19th-century teaching collections, and discuss ethical transgressions in anatomy, e.g. in Nazi Germany. Members of HMS faculty, along with librarians and museum specialists, will be at hand to discuss such exceptional books and artifacts with students and the greater Longwood community. There will also be demonstrations of the Countway’s Anatomage table.
This is a rare opportunity to see fascinating and instructive highlights from one of the world’s great medical history collections and learn more about the Countway’s resources and services.
This event is in Rooms 102 and 103 of the Countway Library and is open-house format. We invite you stop by to see the collections any time between 3:00 and 5:00.
