CHDS Seminar with Dr. Sherry Glied: From Research to Policy

January 4th, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Abstract: Policy researchers are often frustrated that policymakers don’t pay attention to their findings. Policymakers complain that policy research rarely gives them the answers they need. This talk will examine the differences between how researchers and policymakers think about problems and about research findings. It will provide some suggestions about how researchers can make their work more relevant to the needs of policymakers, without sacrificing scientific integrity.

Bio: Dr. Sherry Glied is Dean, NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. She previously chaired the Department of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. In addition to serving as Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, the Clinton Health Care Task Force, and the Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking. She has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Social Insurance.
