MIPS Seminar: Pluripotent stem cells to model and treat lung disease

November 22nd, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

The derivation of relatively undifferentiated lung progenitors as well as differentiated lung epithelia from pluripotent stem cells in culture enables access to a wide variety of cells for basic developmental studies, in vitro disease modeling, and potential therapeutic applications. This seminar will focus on recent progress in generating the two principal epithelial stem cell types of the proximal and distal lung: airway basal cells and alveolar type 2 cells from iPSCs in vitro. In addition, the potential of these cell types to regenerate the injured airway and alveolar epithelium in vivo after transplantation will be discussed.
